Yasmin Ponnappa, who is making her debut with yet-to-release Aaranya Kaandam (AK), has been getting positive reviews for her performance in the film. The actress also clarified that Aaranya Kaandam is not an art house film. ""Just because a film has been screened at international festivals doesn't mean it's not for the masses. AK is as commercial as a film can get," she said to a leading daily.
The film recently got the Grand Jury Award for Best Film at the South Asian International Film Festival in October, 2010. Aaranya Kaandam, directed by Thiagarajan Kumararaja, is S.P. Charan's sixth production venture.
Aaranya Kaandam is a gangster story in a period of 24 hours. It begins from the single most decisive moment in the lives of the six protagonists and deals with the primordial instincts of man, character traits that erase the boundaries separating man from beast. The film, which introduces Bollywood’s renowned actor Jackie Shroff to Tamil films, stars Ravi Krishna and Sampath in the lead roles.
