Actor Karthi, whose film ‘Siruthai’ was one of the major Pongal releases last week along with Vijay’s ‘Kaavalan’ and Dhanush’s ‘Aadukalam’, is upset with the fact that the ‘clandestinely’ made pirated edition of VCDs of the film ‘Siruthai’ were being sold like ‘hot cakes’ in some parts of Chennai and elsewhere in the State.

Karthi met the city’s police commissioner and submitted a petition seeking ‘immediate intervention’ by the police to arrest the sale of such pirated CDs which he said ‘was ruining’ the film industry as whole. ‘Siruthai’ has been produced by Gnanavel Raja, said to be Karthi’s distant relative and close to his family.

The film, though doing well in theatres, might suffer in the long run, Karthi contended during his visit to the CoP’s office along with Gnanavel Raja. Speaking to newsmen later, Karthi said that it was ‘highly regrettable’ that within a week’s time of the release of the film in theatres, the pirated CDs were sold blatantly in pavements outside temples and colleges and showed a ‘sample’ to the journos.

“It has been shot from a theatre, for sure…..it has also been leaked on to the Internet. The (piracy) matter is threatening to blow up the entire industry and it’s our collective responsibility to fight against this menace. In case anyone comes across the sale of the DVD, they can help us by informing the police,” said Karthi.
