Silent Movies, the new banner of producer Prakash Raj, is now ready with its Payanam, directed by Radha Mohan.
The trailor of the film was shown to a select media audience followed by a meeting with the cast and crew. The film, a hijack drama, marks the return of Nagarjuna to the Tamil screen after a long gap.
The film is set at Tirupathi airport and a giant set costing three crores was set up in Ramoji Film city at Hyderabad, designed by art director Kathir.
The aircraft, airport and tarmac were created. The film stars 45 artistes including Prakash Raj, Sana Khan, Manobala, MS Bhasker, Rishi, Badava Gopi and others.
The camerawork is by KV Guhan while Pravin Mani has scored the background music and the solo song written by Madan Karky. The film is a bi lingual in Tamil and Telugu and marks a shift in the movies of Radha Mohan who had done mainly family oriented subjects like Mozhi, Abhiyum Naanum etc before this.
Nagarjuna was excited to be part of this film and revealed, "Ever since I saw Aakasha Mantha, the Telugu version of Abhiyum Naanum, I wanted to work in films like these and had been telling Prakash Raj about it. I am happy I am starting my 16th year in cinema with a different genre from the usual action films I do."
The Telugu version has been shot simultaneously and is produced by Dil Raju. For Sana, the film marks a turn in her career and she is confident it will take her places. "I play a de glam role though of a modern girl who is a passenger in the flight," she says.
Prakash Raj revealed, "Radha Mohan has designed the logo and new name of our banner. The film follows no formula and is a different effort. Radha and I have a friendship of 15 years and when he came to me with this intense story I was surprised since he would not even hold a gun in his dreams! We have used a lot of fresh talent in the film. Nagarjuna's joining the film has given it a bigger dimension." The film is set for a february release.
