What’s happening to Simbu films

Simbu is an enigma. The actor, who is well-versed in the technical aspects of film-making besides possessing amazing dancing and singing skills, hasn’t had a release now for close to an year. For an actor like him in the mid-twenties, it’s something odd that he hasn’t had any film(s) releasing for an year considering the energy levels and the enthusiasm for film-making he has in him.

Post the success of Gautham Menon-directed ‘Vinnai Thaandi Varuvaaya’, directors started believing that Simbu would be able to portray any kind of role with aplomb, provided he is handled properly. For some reasons, Simbu’s film with Lingusamy which was to go the floors got cancelled at the moment with the latter announcing he’d be starting his ‘Vettai’ with Aarya and Madhavan in the lead.

As if to ‘challenge’ Lingu’s film, Simbu announced with much fanfare the launch of his ‘Vettai Mannan’ but the film hasn’t yet gone to the floors. Meanwhile, he started doing ‘Vaanam’ with Bharath, Anoushka and a host of actors which was to launch on Valentine’s Day (February 14), but there are no signs of the film releasing in a couple of days from now.

Last year, Simbu was to star in cinematographer-director K.V. Anand’s ‘Ko’ which then slipped out of his hands due to some differences between him and Anand. Simbu was later replaced by Jiiva. Simbu is also mid-way through his own production ‘Poda Podi’ opposite Varalakshmi, daughter of Sarath Kumar. Nobody, except Simbu, knows for sure as to how far the film has progressed.

Let’s hope he completes his projects one by one in the coming months!
