Seeman attacks Kalaignar publicity stunts

Actor-director Seeman, who heads the ‘Naam Thamizhar’ political movement, was jailed last year under ‘National Security Act’ for his reported ‘inflammatory remarks’ against the Lankan Government. Recently let off by the Court, Seeman appears very vigorous in his tirade against the ruling DMK and its chief.

Seeman’s latest salvo against Kalaignar questions the wisdom of depicting ‘Rising Sun’, the election symbol of the ruling DMK, on the ‘Pongal Bag’ containing some essential commodities and distributed throughout the State through the State-owned PDS ration shops. “This is highly mischievous and condemnable,” says Seeman, without mincing words.

In a statement released, Seeman wondered how could a ‘gift package’, supposed to be given by the government for its citizens, have the symbol of one of the major allies in the ruling combine depicted prominent on it. “Instead of depicting the face of Tiruvalluvar, the party’s symbol has been depicted that too at a time when Assembly elections are round the corner,” the statement said.

This clearly showed the ‘actual’ intention of the government headed by Kalaignar and a public welfare scheme is grossly misused to serve the interest of his party, the statement alleged. The statement also noted with regret that in an unprecedented manner, each and every spot available is being named after Kalaignar, which is another example of misuse of power.
