Balu Mahendra, the filmmaker with flair, has directed many unforgettable films in the past. The maverick cinematographer-cum-director, though, has been on a self-imposed hiatus after his last venture ‘Adhu Oru Kanaakalam’ (starring Dhanush and Priyamani).

Suresh, an erstwhile assistant of Balu Mahendra who has assisted his guru in the making of many of his films, is making his much-awaited directorial debut in Kollywood with a film titled ‘Eththan’. In his very first venture, Suresh is courageous enough to take up the additional responsibilities of story, dialogue and screenplay writing besides directing the film.

‘Eththan’ is produced by Nazir (manager of actress Trisha), who had produced the successful ‘Kalavaani’ last year starring Vimal. Nazir repeats Vimal, who had his ‘Thoonga nagaram’ releasing last Friday, in ‘Eththan’ too apparently with the hope that the film would click in a big way at the box-office just as ‘Kalavaani’ did.

Sanusha of ‘Renigunda’ fame pairs up opposite Vimal in this film, which has the temple town of Kumbakonam as its backdrop. Suresh has reportedly scripted his story ‘differently’ from the usual village-based stories and assures that Vimal, who is regularly starring in such stories, would be playing a ‘very unusual but likeable’ role.

Sanusha won’t be appearing as a mere ‘glam-doll’ but would have plenty of scope for acting, says Suresh. Music of the film has been scored by Taj Noor.
