Telugu dubbings don't work in TN

The last Telugu dubbed film which has done extraordinary business in Tamil is Anushka's Arundathi!

The film worked because of its graphics, Anushka power in TN and above all smart marketing by Ramanarayanan, the Tamil Film Producer Council chief.

Now big Telugu films are released simultaneously with Andhra and are screened in nearly a dozen screens in Chennai city and suburbs (highest Telugu population in the state) and a few screens in border areas with Andhra.

The audiences consist of largely Telugu students from Andhra studying in various educational institutes in Chennai.

Among Telugu heroes , Mahesh Babu has the best opening followed by Ravi Teja and Pawan Kalyan in Chennai city which accounts for 90 per cent of the total market in TN.

Arundathi was the last Telugu film dubbed into Tamil, that worked. Later so many Trisha and Nayanthara Telugu originals were dubbed into Tamil, but none of them could cover the cost of their dubbing, print and poster charges!

The latest we hear is that Anushka- Nagarjuna, Ragada is getting dubbed into Tamil as Vambu while Mahesh Babu- Anushka Khaleja is getting dubbed as Badra.

A leading distributor said: "As it is there are no audiences for Tamil films, so who will see these dubbed films? No mainstream distributor deals with dubbed films which are marketed by individuals trying to make an entry into film business, without knowing the basics. And as a policy top theatres in Chennai city and big towns in TN do not screen dubbed films."

Please note the biggest hit film in Telugu Ram Charan Teja's Maghadheera (2009) which is yet to be released in TN, was dubbed as Maveeran into Tamil but still the film could not get any buyers.

Ram Charan's Orange in Telugu was another film kept away from Chennai audiences, for the dubbing market!
