Actor-Magician Alex Passes Away

Well known Tamil actor Alex, who was also a popular magician, died at the Apollo Hospital here following a brief illness.


According to his family sources, the actor had been suffering from an intestinal disorder and was admitted to the hospital for treatment yesterday.

He was 52. He is survived by his wife and two daughters.

Alex had etched his name in the Guinness Book of World Records as well as the Limca Book of Records for performing non-stop magic for 24 hours, during his career.

He had acted in 100 films and had 25 more in hand. He made his screen debut in "Valli", which was produced by Tamil superstar Rajnikanth in 1997. Some of his well known films in which he made a mark as an actor included "Mita Mirasu" with another popular lead actor Sathyaraj, "Kovilpatti Veeralakshmi" starring Simran, in which he won the Best Character Actor Award from Tamil Nadu Government. He also made a mark for his portrayal of villainous characters.

The Tamil Nadu government had also honoured him with the prestigious "Kalaimamani" Award.

Alex had also served as Joint Secretary of South Indian Film Artistes' Association during his career.
