Will the government allow theatre owner's to have more number of shows, than the stipulated four shows per day?
The powerful Tamil Nadu Cinema Theatre Owners’ Federation (TNCTOF) held their general body meeting at Abirami megamall in Chennai on Monday. They have requested the new Jayalalithaa government toformalise a package for them.
Their demands include to fix specific ticket rates for multiplexes, air-conditioned and non-air conditioned single screens. The ticket rates have been fixed in 2007 by the then DMK government, with the upper limit of Rs 120 for multiplexes.
Since then cost of operations have gone up and now TNCTOF would like the government to take a look at it.
The Federation also wants the TN government to increase theatre maintenance charge from Rs 1 to Rs 3 in multiplexes and from 50 paisa to Re 1 in single screens.
They also want the government cap on the number of shows per day which is four at the moment to be increased.
TNCTOF wants flexible ticket charges meaning weekend and weekdays to have separate rates, which will allow tickets at lower prices from Monday to Thursday.
They want the government to treat theatres as any other revenue earning industry and allow any number of shows between 9 am in the morning to 1am in the night.
Abirami Ramanathan, president of TNCTOF said: "We have after our general body meeting to approach the state government and submit a request to the Chief Minister asking the authorities concerned to fix specific ticket rates for theatres in various categories like multiplexes and air-conditioned, non ac screens."
