2010 has been the most prolific year in the history of Kollywood.
Nearly 150 Tamil straight films have released, with last day of the year alone accounting for another five releases!
The five new releases this week are all small films, which want to technically get a release in 2010 for various reasons.
The releases are: Kotti, Muthal Kadhal Mazhai, Villalan, Puthiya Thalapathy, and Nalanthana. There are also two dubbing films Chinthamani Kola Vazhaku and Tirupachi Aruval, which are masquerading as straight films.
Last week's big release Manmadhan Ambu has not taken the kind of opening that was expected.
Still it is very strong in multiplexes, and has no real opposition till Pongal. The big Hindi release of last week Tees Maar Khan has collapsed, and number of screens and shows in multiplexes have been reduced.
