Filmmaker Gautham Menon is besotted by two problems which are of two different kinds. First, his 'official' cinematographer Manoj Praamhansa who has been a regular in all Menon's films, has gone ahead and committed himself to work for Shankar's '3 Idiots', remake without getting 'prior permission' from Menon who wanted to sign him up for his successive films.
Next one concerns actor Surya, who is busy shooting for his upcoming film 'Ezham Arivu' directed by A.R. Murugadoss. Suriya had committed himself to star in Menon's next, which was to be a thriller named 'Thuppariyum Anand', for which Ajit was also in the reckoning but later opted out of it.
Now that Suriya is likely to take Vijay's role in Shankar's '3 Idiots' after the later has walked out of the film, he may not be able to work with Menon for the thriller. As this would be his first film with Shankar, Suriya is said to have 'informed' of his decision to Menon that he would be starring in Shankar's film and, therefore, may not be able to work with him.
An upset Menon went to Sivakumar, Suriya's father, and complained about Suriya's attitude. After convinging him that his elder son had no other option, Sivakumar is said to have mooted the idea of casting his younger son Karthi in Suriya's place. Menon, though resisted it at first, later thought about it and settled down to agree to Sivakumar's idea.
Last heard, he has been making the necessary changes in the script to suit Karthi's 'image'.
