After a long time, Asin has made a comeback of sorts in Tamil with the Pongal release ‘Kaavalan’ opposite Vijay. The many hurdles the film faced prior to its release notwithstanding, the film has been doing reasonably well at the box-office, it is learnt.
Asin was the unofficial ‘numero uno’ in Tami films when she went to Bollywood more than three years ago to star opposite superstar Aamir Khan in the Hindi version of ‘Ghajini’ which turned out to be a super-duper hit. Her second film in Hindi (‘London Dreams’), though, failed to send the cash registers ringing at the box-office.
Asin now hopes to reverse the trend with her upcoming Hindi film titled ‘Ready’ opposite Salman Khan. She says that money is no more the criterion (it was never, actually, she insists) for her to sign up new film. “I’m looking for films that would provide me an opportunity to showcase my acting credentials,” says the smiling Malayalee beauty.
Refuting the rumours that she has decided to ‘bid goodbye’ to Tamil films, Asin says, “I can’t let my Hindi film offers go begging; it’s Hindi films which gave me an all-India audiences and made me what I am today. I liked my character in ‘Kaavalan’ and that’s why agreed to do the film. Irrespective of the language, I’d take up any offer only if it excites me!”
