01. Yudham Sei

Mysskin is out with his crime thriller, more or less in the format of his previous movies. A slickly directed thriller, it slowly unfolds leading to the finale. A fast-paced first half and a slacking second half form the movie.

Trade Talk:
The movie opened to near-average houses over the weekend and with decent reviews, it could go on for another few weeks at the box office.

Public Talk:
A thriller falls short of interesting events in the second half that threatens to reduce the movie to yet another regular thriller drama.

02. Siruthai

Karthi’s first double role, Santhanam’s riotous comedy, Tamannah’s spiked up glam quotient; all these work for Siruthai even while the rest of the movie seems to have nothing much in offer. Karthi added first Telugu remake to his portfolio.

Trade Talk:
B and C centers are lapping up Siruthai and hence the collections in those areas are steadily going, according to trade analyst.

Public Talk:
Karthi’s charm and Tamannah’s petite nature and her willingness towards flaunting her sex appeal!

03. Thoonga Nagaram

Thoonga Nagaram is yet another movie with Madurai as backdrop and focuses on the trials and tribulations of a bunch of friends. There is crime, vengeance, double crossing but the movie falls short, for lack of crisp direction.

Trade Talk:
Mixed reviews from critics and average word-of-mouth from the movie watching public. Still, it’s too early to predict the movie’s business.

Public Talk:
Vimal in a role that has very little scope for him to perform; Kalavani makes this role look like a piece of cake.

04. Kaavalan

Vijay’s Kavalan has residues of earlier movies of Siddique himself and Fasil. A clean-cut love story, told in Siddique’s unique narrative technique Kavalan is acted out well by the lead cast including Vijay and Asin.

Trade Talk:
Collections have been slow, yet steady in the release centers; thanks to the loyalty seemingly being displayed by Vijay’s ardent fans.

Public Talk:
Vijay in a role stripped off his heroic antics and Asin, fresh as a daisy.

05. Aadukalam

Dhanush and Vetrimaaran prove that their team is very formidable. Aadukalam is a fascinating study of egos and spitefulness that arise out of the fear of success of a close aide. Dhanush, Tapsee, Jayabalan and Kishore make the movie a memorable experience.

Trade Talk:
The movie opened to critical acclaim during the Pongal weekend and commercial success is following slowly.

Public Talk:
G V Prakash’s songs, Tapsee’s natural naivety and Dhanush’s riveting performance, among many.

06. Pathinaaru

After a few goofy comedies, Shiva is testing waters with a romantic drama, directed by D Sabapathy. Pathinaaru adopts a narration that congregates two different stories in the plot. Madhu Shalini plays Shiva’s female lead.

Trade Talk:
With very little publicity and not-so-great reviews, the movie is finding it difficult to find its standing at the box office.

Public Talk:
Yuvan Shankar Raja’s music, mainly.
