Director-turned-actor SJ Surya will portray the role of Silencer in Shankar's Nanban, a remake of Bollywod blockbuster 3 Idiots. He has replaced Omi Vaidya, who walked out of the project citing date issues.
According to reports, Vijay suggested Surya's name to the director after Omi Vaidya opted out of the project. Comparatively with the original, his character will have minor changes in the Tamil version to give more comic relief for the audience, adds a source.
Surya, who directed his career as a director with Vaali, made his debut as an actor in the film New. However, he is also making his debut in Bollywood with Gautham Menon's Hindi version of Vinnaithaandi Varuvaaya.
