This is the first Friday after a new government took charge in Tamil Nadu. Though Kollywood shares a close relationship with the State’s politics, none of the three films hitting the screens today (‘Kanden’, ‘Eththan’ and ‘Maithanam’) seem to have any political connection.
While the first two movies have known faces in lead roles, the third one has freshers playing the protagonists, but there is an interesting trivia in it. Here we zoom into all the three flicks.
Kanden, Shanthanu Bhagyaraj, the ‘Sakkarakatti’ hero, is back with ‘Kanden’. Directed by A C Mugil, the film is a breezy romantic entertainer and the actor hopes it to be a turning point in his career.
“When I signed up to do this film, my father said working on this character isn’t going to be a breeze. Even actors who have years of experience in the industry will find this role very challenging. So, I worked very hard to understand my character. Let’s hope for better things,” Shanthanu says.
The film produced by TCS on Sri Sivaselvanayagi Amman Movies banner has music by Vijay Ebenezer. The songs by Vijay Ebenezer are already topping the charts and they were released and marketed by Gautham Vasudev Menon's newly launched music label, Photon Kathas Audio.
Eththan, Post the stupendous success of ‘Kalavani’, producer Nazir of Sherali Films is gearing up to repeat the magic with ‘Eththan’, which has the same Vimal playing the role of the protagonist.
Directed by debutant L Suresh, it is a hilarious entertainer, according to Nazir. The whole movie has been shot in Kumbakonam and its adjoining areas.
Suresh, who was a former associate of veteran filmmaker Balu Mahendra, says, “The movie is a collection of incidents that I have come across in my life. Youngsters will identify themselves with the character that Vimal is donning in Eththan.”
Vimal says, “I felt very comfortable with Suresh and his easy style of direction reminded me of my previous directors Pandiraj and Sargunam. Ethan is an energetic entertainer”
Maithanam, Debutant director M S Sakthivel promises a lot about ‘Maithanam’. The film stars four assistant directors in the lead- M A Kennedy, Suresh Guru, Jyothi Raj and Siva- who have assisted noted filmmakers like Agathian, Bharathiraja and Ramanarayanan
Says Sakthivel, “I tried for almost two decades to join a director as an assistant before venturing out on my own. When no one came forward to help me, I decided to help myself.”
“I read several books on films and improved my knowledge. I then went on to work as a co-director on a reality show. Now, I’ve directed my first film and it’s all set to hit screens soon.”
Director Agathiyan plays an important role in the film. Swasika who acted in films like ‘Vaigai’ and ‘Goripalayam’ is the heroine.
